The secret of networking is to help others get what they want. To match people with others who have a shared commonality that mutually assist each other. Once you help enough people you are on your way. The second you ask someone if you can help them you start a cycle of mutual assistance."What do you do John, how can I help you?" The key is to get them to talk about themselves. Communicate with respect and responsiveness. Tragically most networkers think of their own profit first.
Today introduce yourself and ask."What do you do John, how can I help you?" 3 times today. This advice reminded me of Benjamin Zanders words: "Success is about how many shining eyes I have around me." In other words, enlivening the possibilities in others.
Dr. Sheila Murray Bethel, author of 'Making a Difference: Twelve Qualities That Make You a Leader', reminds us of the power of knowing what makes us a pro at what we do, a success in our life. Write a check list of what the best version of you does to succeed.
