Positive thinking may not work - but positive thinkers achieve more - and I firmly believe that in every diaster there is an equal good, and even the reverse is true. Power is found in seeing the balance that makes a united whole.
“This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of it’s furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”
To realize the value of a sister Ask someone who doesn't have one. To realize the value of ten years: Ask a newly divorced couple. To realize the value of four years: Ask a graduate. To realize the value of one year: Ask a student who has failed a final exam. To realize the value of one month: Ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of one week: Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of one hour: Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realize the value of one minute: Ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane. To realize the value of one-second: Ask a person who has survived an accident. To realize the value of one millisecond: Ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics...... Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special. To realize the value of a friend: Lose one.
We are constantly bombarded by facts. This new truth and then another. Their truths seem undeniable. Then we, or perhaps some expert working, we hope, in our behalf, extrapolates this information into our lives. It seems that for every step we take forward there is also unintended backward steps. We think we have the answers and yet for every positive thought we ... Consider this example reported in the York Times of February 17, 2009 (click the link if you want to read the whole interesting article).
"The Unintended Consequences of Changing Nature’s Balance” In 1985, Australian scientists kicked off an ambitious plan: to kill off non-native cats that had been prowling the island’s slopes since the early 19th century. The program began out of apparent necessity — the cats were preying on native burrowing birds. Twenty-four years later, a team of scientists from the Australian Antarctic Division and the University of Tasmania reports that the cat removal unexpectedly wreaked havoc on the island ecosystem.
With the cats gone, the island’s rabbits (also non-native) began to breed out of control, ravaging native plants and sending ripple effects throughout the ecosystem. “Our findings show that it’s important for scientists to study the whole ecosystem before doing eradication programs,” said Arko Lucieer, a University of Tasmania remote-sensing expert and a co-author of the paper." Now let it be known that I love and respect science. The scientific method has done much great service to mankind. Let it be known I also recognise that humans seem to not ne very good at holistically predicting the outcome of their choices. Science must be restrictive for something to be testable. People and nature are not so desirous of being easily catalogued. For every form of progress, with experts telling us their will be l;ittle impact, their is a compounding intereaction of little changes that collectively snowball upon us.We, need to learn all about the system in which we exist - the forces influencing us as well as the forces through which we affect everything - before trying to change anything in the system. Because the system is integral, we now have a domino effect on the global scale, where any small, particular error causes a systemic, global collapse. The problem is that human psychology is also part of the system that controls us and for all its progress we know still so little of our minds.
The Bnei Baruch Kabbalah institute ran a contest to concisely describe the meaning of Kabbalah:
A-truism is the key L-etting others clearly see L-ife is connectivity Y-elling loud won’t send the word O-thers need to be disturbed U-ntil everyone has heard N-o one needs to be alone E-very body has atoned E-nter now a new beginning D-o we search for deeper meaning? I am not just only one S-triving now has just begun L-ove our neighbor as ourselves O-pens up a different shelf V-ictory is our response E-verybody has to bond
adapted from brien * You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn paths... and that will make all the difference.
* You've got to find what you love. And that is true to work and as for lovers. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. So keep looking, don't settle.
* Death is a destination we all share. Your time is limited, so don't waste your time living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others opinion drown out your own inner voice.
* And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
An Exercise
1.Create a list of things people have told you that you can't do.
2. On another piece of paper and Title it: "I won't waste my time living someone else's life. I won't let the noise of others opinion drown out my inner voice."
3. Write the Positive (opposite) of what people have told you that you can't do. (eg: people said: "You'l always be poor". Write: "I am rich".)
4. Place the Positive list inside of a picture frame, behind your own picture. This will trigger your subconscious each time you look at the picture
5. Grab the Negative list, focus all your attention to it and burn it. (this will be an anchor to your subconscious symbolizing the end of negative opinions in your subconscious)
The picture and the burning (flames) are psychological anchors that you just created. Our brain works by associations. Every picture or photo (framed) you see will trigger your subconscious about positive things you are capable of.
And each time you see flames (burning), it will trigger your subconscious of the negative associations to burn away and be released. You have and kept the positive list, but the negative list is nowhere in your possession. Your subconscious retains positivity and releases negativity.
Perform this task several times. Use it for your goals and ambitions, with your affirmations, changing negative habits etc. Depending on the picture, your subconscious will link it to that person, place or pet.
